Overwatch League Players’ Pics Used To Catfish On Dating Apps

Overwatch League

Former main support player for London Spitfire has revealed that Overwatch League players’ photos are being used to lure people into a relationship on dating apps.

The online dating scene has been plagued with catfishing for quite some time now. The activity involves pretending to be someone else on social media platforms in a bid to either attract or trick another person.

Matchmaking apps have left no stone unturned in a bid to put a lid on the practice but to no avail. While usually associated with big names from more mainstream media, like YouTube beauty guru James Charles, Korea has witnessed a very unlikely celebrity becoming a victim of catfishing.

Overwatch League player SanGuiNar has revealed that his pictures, alongside other OWL pros, have been used on dating apps. On Jan. 4, the support player opened up about images of him, and fellow players Se-hwan ‘ChoiSehwan’ Choi and Jung-Yeon ‘Chara’ Kim of Guangzhou Charge are being used to catfish.

““one of my fans said someone acted like me and GZ Charge’s ChoiSehwan and dated another fan. He used Snapchat to text other fans and used me and ChoiSehwan, Chara’s picture,” he explained. He went on to clarify that he “doesn’t use Snapchat and has never sent messages to fans first,” the support player closes by stating “don’t be confused, he is not me.”

It may seem unusual to use pictures of esports players to catfish, it is worth noting that Korean culture stands in awe of gaming professionals, more so than in any other country around the world. League of Legends player Sang-hyeok ‘Faker’ Lee, for instance, has made appearances alongside K-Pop Idols BTS on their reality show, Run! BTS, Dexerto reported.

Most likely, the issue will be resolved soon, but until then, it is imperative for us to stay diligent online. Watch this space for the latest e-sports news.
