Bella Ramsey will be playing Ellie In HBO’s The Last Of Us series, this is the first casting since the TV show was announced in Mar. 2020.
It appears that HBO’s upcoming Last of Us series has finally found its Ellie in the form of Bella Ramsey, who rose to popularity due to her breakout role as Lyanna Mormont in HBO’s Game of Thrones. The 17-year-old English actress has been officially cast in the role.
Co-created by The Last of Us director Neil Druckman and Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin, the post-apocalyptic series is being directed by Russian director Kantemir Balagov. Ramsay’s casting was first confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, debunking rumors of another potential casting.
True Detective star Mahershala Ali was rumored to have been roped in for the role of Joel, however, he will not be taking on the role, despite being considered for it. HBO’s upcoming series will revolve around the events of the first game with Mazin attempting to keep the source material as original as possible, while simply expanding upon it.
The series is set in twenty years after civilization has been destroyed by a zombie-like virus. A smuggler and a hardened survivor, Joel is hired to transport a teenage girl, Ellie, who is immune to the effects of the virus, across the country.
With nothing going as planned, Joel’s assignment turns out to be a brutal and heartbreaking journey that changes him and Ellie forever. Will nearly 20 million copies sold, the game won several awards after hitting the store shelves in 2013.
Considering the game’s popularity, it is hardly surprising that many fans are waiting with bated breath to see how HBO tackles it. Ramsey seems to be an ideal choice for the role of Ellie, a wise-cracking, tough teenager, given that her role of Mormont in Game of Thrones was lauded for the tenacity she used to lock horns with actors twice her age.
Now that we have our Ellie, it shouldn’t be long until Joel and other fan-favorite characters start getting announced. Watch this space for the latest gaming news.
